Book of Life for Kuna Yala
by Rod Boyd

You could call it an experience of a lifetime. Missionary Kent Moody and I had the wonderful privilege of delivering over 5,000 copies of the Book of Life to the area called “Kuna Yala”--the Kuna name for the San Blas Island region.

There are 365 islands, many of which are very near (200 yards) the coastline. The Kuna inhabit about 40 of these islands. About a dozen of the islands have an airstrip, often sharing it with neighboring islands. We touched down on all but one. Landing on an island airstrip is an “art.” Most often, both ends of the airstrip is ocean.

The distribution took place over a two day period. A missionary pilot with New Tribes Mission helped us with the transportation. Carlos Guardia, Kuna pastor, set up the itinerary and collected the statistics from the department of education on the number of children on each island.

The Book of Life represents hope for the Kuna people--introduced to the most humble, the children. Pray with us that the seed of the Word of God will take root in Kuna Yala.
